Iran, EU officials to meet in Vienna ahead of nuclear talks

TEHRAN, November 17 (RIA Novosti) - Iranian and EU negotiators will meet in Vienna on November 21 to continue the preparation for the next round of talks on Tehran's controversial nuclear program.

Iran's deputy chief nuclear negotiator Javad Vaeedi and Robert Cooper, EU director of external relations, will discuss the timeline and the agenda of the future talks between Saeed Jalili, the head of the Iran's Supreme National Security Council, and European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad highly praised Thursday the UN nuclear watchdog's report on Tehran's "nuclear dossier."

The report delivered on Thursday by IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei said Iran had been truthful, in general, about key aspects of its "nuclear dossier," but warned that Tehran continues to work on uranium enrichment, despite persistent demands that the country fold the program.

Ahmadinejad later demanded that Western nations apologize to Iran for suspecting it was conducting a covert nuclear weapons program.

"You have passed two resolutions based on erroneous information and reports, but now when you realize your mistakes you should be courageous enough to acknowledge it and apologize to the Iranian people," he said on local television.

The Islamic Republic is currently subject to two sets of UN Security Council sanctions over its defiance to halt uranium enrichment. A further round of tougher sanctions has been blocked by Russia and China.

Iran insists that it needs nuclear energy for electricity generation not weapons production.
