RIYADH, November 28 (RIA Novosti) - Saudi authorities arrested 208 people suspected of planning attacks on oil facilities, the Al Arabiya television channel said Wednesday.

The suspects allegedly linked to al-Qaeda also planned to assault security officials and religious figures, and one of the groups intended to smuggle missiles into the country, the TV report said.

The arrested people were reportedly part of a terrorist network where 32 members were responsible for financial transactions, and others masterminded and prepared the operations. Eight of such people were arrested, including their foreign leader, Al Arabiya said.

Another TV channel, Al Ikhbariya TV, said citing the Saudi Interior Ministry that those arrested, included a group of 18 headed by a foreigner who was an expert in missile launches.

Al Ikhbariya's report also said another group of 16 had been arrested in Medina in western Saudi Arabia on suspicion of spreading the Takfiri ideology, which demands the murder of any non-Moslem.

Saudi Arabia holds one fourth of the world's oil reserves.
