STOCKHOLM, December 5 (RIA Novosti) - The Nobel Prize Week, a series of celebrations in honor of the prize winners, begins on Wednesday in Stockholm and Oslo, a source in the Nobel Foundation said.

The Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology/Medicine and Literature, as well as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, an associated prize, are awarded in Stockholm, while the award ceremony for winners of the Nobel Peace Prize is held in Oslo, Norway.

Before the award ceremony, traditionally held on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death, the prize winners will give lectures and news conferences.

This year the main winner is former U.S. vice-president Al Gore and the UN global change panel.

The festivities will be topped off by the Nobel Peace concert on December 11, in Oslo hosted by American actors, Uma Thurman and Tommy Lee Jones. The concert will be broadcast in over 100 countries and Kylie Minogue, Alicia Keys, Annie Lennox and Melissa Etheridge are among the stars set to perform for guests.

The winner of the associated prize in economics, 90 year-old Leonid Hurwicz, who is the oldest of the 2007 Nobel laureates, will not attend the ceremony, as well as the winner of the Nobel Prize for literature, 87 year-old British novelist Doris Lessing.

"Doris Lessing has been ill for some time but had very much hoped to be able to come to Stockholm," the Nobel foundation said in a statement. "Unfortunately her medical advisers have said that she must not travel."

Her lecture in literature will be read by her publisher in Sweden, Nicholas Pearson.
