RIGA, December 5 (RIA Novosti) - Latvian Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis submitted his Cabinet's resignation to the president on Wednesday, the government press service said.

Kalvitis announced three weeks ago he would resign, amid criticism over soaring inflation and street protests against the sacking of the anti-corruption bureau chief, who was probing campaign funding violations by the premier's People's Party.

"As planned, we are resigning today. The work of this government was long and productive. I hope the new government will be formed in December," Kalvitis said in his last speech as prime minister.

President Valdis Zatlers said he would hold talks with ministers on forming a new government, likely to be dominated by members of the outgoing four-party ruling coalition.

Kalvitis' government came to power in on December 2, 2004.
