KIEV, December 7 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Europe-bound natural gas supplies were not affected by an explosion on a section of the transit pipeline in central Ukraine, the country's national oil and gas company said on Friday.

The blast occurred on Thursday evening on the Urengoi-Pomary-Uzhgorod pipeline, which pumps Russian gas to Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany and France. The fire has been put out, and no casualties have been reported.

"Supplies to Europe were not suspended, as gas was redirected along other pipelines," Naftogaz said.

The company said the 30-meter (98-feet) damaged section would be repaired in 7-10 days, adding that it had been cut off. Depressurization has been cited as the cause of the blast.
