ABU-DHABI, December 10 (RIA Novosti) - A freight vessel carrying cattle intended for a feast to mark an Islamic festival sank near the Hanish Islands in the Red Sea, drowning all 10,000 animals on board, Yemen's Saba news agency reported on Monday.

The agency said all 22 crew members were rescued by Yemeni coastguards.

The animals were to be sacrificed as part of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Sacrifice Feast, due this year on December 20.

The festival commemorates Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael for Allah. Traditionally, a large portion of the meat is given to the poor.
