Russia said on December 12 it would lift its two-year embargo on Polish meat next week, following a meeting between the Russian and Polish agriculture ministers in Moscow.
Russia banned Polish meat exports in November 2005 over allegations that the country was supplying poor-quality meat from third countries. Poland vetoed talks on a new Russia-EU partnership and cooperation agreement in protest against the embargo.
"I can tell you that all events are developing positively and I do not rule out we could soon lift our veto," Tusk told reporters after his meeting with the French president.
The ban on Polish meat has proved a major source of tension between the countries. Center-right politician Donald Tusk's victory in Polish parliamentary elections in October prompted hopes that Warsaw would take a more accommodating stance on disputes with Russia, including on the meat issue.
