Although the storm has weakened to a tropical depression 35,000 people have been forced from their homes after flooding in the northwestern province of Santiago. The Yaque del Norte River burst its banks and washed away a number of homes killing ten with many still missing.
Francisco Arias, the regional Civil Defense director was quoted as saying: "There are dead and missing, but we still don't have the precise number because we are limited to rescuing those who are alive."
The Emergency Operations Committee (COE) reported that another man died in the northern city of Constanza, while relief workers are using helicopters and navy vessels to rescue people.
Olga is reported to have caused the death of at least one man in Puerto Rico, who died in a landslide.
The tropical storm, which came 10 days after the hurricane season ended, is the 15th named storm this year. In early November, tropical storm Noel killed over 150 people in the Dominican Republic.
The Jamaica Observer newspaper said citing Jamaican emergency officials that relief agencies were preparing a relief operation anticipating heavy rains brought by the weakened storm.
