ISLAMABAD, December 27 (RIA Novosti) - The presidents of Afghanistan and Pakistan said that they had reached mutual understanding and were ready to unite in the fight against terrorism, Pakistani media reported on Wednesday.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who began a two-day visit to Pakistan on Wednesday, has been discussing cooperation in fighting international terrorism, border security, and bilateral relations with Pakistan's leaders.

Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf was quoted as saying at a press-conference after the talks that, "The key to fighting and enhancing our capability against terrorists and extremists is intelligence cooperation."

"We discussed in sincerity, and in a manner that enhanced our understanding, our common problems and the ways to tackle them," Karzai said, after the meeting.

Karzai is being accompanied by a delegation of over 50 Afghan officials, including the foreign minister, the finance minister, and the trade minister, as well as governors of provinces bordering Pakistan, and other officials.

The Afghan president last visited Islamabad in February 2006 to express sympathy and support for the country in the aftermath of a devastating October 2005 earthquake.

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Washington's principal allies in the region, had noticeably cooled before the visit of the Afghan president to Pakistan.

Kabul has recently accused Islamabad of not doing enough to fight pro-Taliban groups based in Pakistan.
