GAZA, March 2 (RIA Novosti) - Another 10 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli raid on the Gaza Strip on Sunday bringing the death toll in the last few days to 110 people, many of them civilians, a Palestinian health official said.

The Israeli military have conducted a land offensive and air raids since Friday mainly targeting the city of Jabalia in the north of the Palestinian enclave controlled by radical Islamic group Hamas.

Mouawea Abu-Hasanen said over 300 people have been injured in Gaza.

Some Israeli officials said on Sunday the Jewish state could step up its offensive on Gaza to overthrow Hamas, which has denied Israel's right to exist and almost daily fired rockets on its southern territory.

The statements came despite the UN's condemnation of an excessive use of force by Israel and demands to end air and ground operations.

Two Israeli soldiers were killed and seven wounded in fighting with Gaza militants on Saturday. Six residents of the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon were also injured in attacks by Palestinian radicals, who began firing longer-range Katyusha rockets, Israeli officials said.

Egypt's MENA news agency said Egypt would open the Rafah checkpoint with Gaza to allow the injured into the country. Ambulances have been sent to the checkpoint and hospitals in the border area prepared to receive patients from Gaza.

Palestinian health authorities earlier said Israel had not allowed Palestinian ambulances and Red Cross officials to take the injured from Gaza, which has been in isolation since last June, when Hamas took control of the territory ousting the moderate President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah, now in control of the West Bank.

Western media said Abbas suspended the U.S.-brokered peace negotiations with Israel on Sunday, demanding an end to the Gaza offensive.
