CAIRO, March 17 (RIA Novosti) - Twenty-three people were killed and 13 injured when their vehicle crashed into a truck on the highway between Cairo and Alexandria late on Sunday, local television said.
Police said the truck driver was to blame for the accident as he veered into oncoming traffic smashing into a vehicle carrying police officers from the Egyptian capital to the city on the Mediterranean.
Road accidents are common in Egypt. Experts cite poor road conditions and a failure by drivers to observe traffic rules as the main causes of accidents. Authorities have launched a large-scale traffic campaign to reduce road accidents.
