ASTANA, March 21 (RIA Novosti) - Five people were killed and another two hospitalized as a country house collapsed in southern Kazakhstan, a local emergencies spokesman said on Friday.
"A two-story country house collapsed at the Edelweiss cottage development in the Almaty Region late on Thursday...as a veranda and reinforced concrete props being built by the owners fell from a height of 35-40 meters [115-130 feet]," the country's Emergencies Ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, there were seven people inside the house when it collapsed. Five bodies were found in the debris. Two children, aged 16 and eight, were taken to hospital. Their condition is not yet known.
Rescue workers said some 50 cubic meters of solid-cast reinforced concrete had collapsed onto the residents of the country house during the incident.
