TEHRAN, April 5 (RIA Novosti) - Iran will hold its second Nuclear Technology Day on April 8, during which the government will tout the country's new achievements in the nuclear sector.

Iran has so far defied three rounds of United Nations sanctions in its insistence on developing nuclear power generation capability. Several Western powers suspect the program is a cover for weapons development.

Government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham told reporters on Saturday: "Our goal was always to produce nuclear fuel and to develop generation capacity of 20,000 megawatts at our nuclear power plants."

"Despite resistance from our enemies and the machinations of the United States, we will announce to the people our new achievements in the nuclear sphere."

Iran's first Nuclear Day was held last year, on the first anniversary of the launch of uranium enrichment in the country.

Iran's key nuclear partner is Russia, which has almost finished building the country's first nuclear plant in Bushehr, southern Iran.

Russia delivered its eighth and final enriched uranium shipment to Bushehr on January 28.

The UN Security Council passed a resolution on March 3 imposing a third round of economic sanctions against Iran over its refusal to halt uranium enrichment. Two previous rounds of UN sanctions were imposed on Tehran in December 2006 and March 2007.
