ASTANA, May 19 (RIA Novosti) - Kazakhstan has banned the export of petroleum products in a bid to stem price growth on the domestic market, Prime Minister Karim Masimov said on Monday.

The price of diesel fuel grew 6.5% and gasoline 3% in April in Kazakhstan, considerably outpacing inflation, which stood at 0.9%.

"Today I have signed a resolution banning the export of petroleum products. We must stop the price growth," the premier said.

Kazakhstan's Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sauat Mynbayev earlier said there were attempts to re-export petroleum products from Kazakhstan. According to his information, the exports of diesel fuel and gasoline from Kazakhstan grew 50%, year-on-year, in the first quarter of 2008.
