The drugs were discovered in the Khatlon Region on the Afghani border. A 35 year-old Afghani national has been detained in connection with the case.
According to statistics released by Tajik authorities, three metric tons (6,614 lbs) of drugs, including 900 kg of heroin (1,984 lbs) have been seized in the country in the first six months of 2008.
Police in south Afghanistan seized last week what is believed to be the largest amount of hashish ever discovered by law enforcement officers anywhere in the world.
The 236.8 metric tons of hashish was found lying in bags under the earth in the Spin Boldak district in the Kandahar province after a tip-off. The hashish, which had an estimated street value of $400 million, was subsequently burnt by police officers.
"The overall weight of the drugs was more than 30 British double-decker buses," said a spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.
