Greek businessman freed after $18.6 mln ransom paid to kidnappers
Giorgos Mylonas, the CEO of Greece's Alumil Aluminium company, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen shortly before midnight on June 9 in Thessaloniki, as he was driving home with his wife.
The kidnappers later released his wife, but the businessman was taken hostage and a 30 million euro ($46.7 million) ransom was demanded for his release.
Mylonas, 49, arrived home in a stolen BMW provided by the gang after his family left the money at an undisclosed location on Saturday.
Alumil SA is a Greek aluminum conglomerate with subsidiaries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Shortly after Mylonas' kidnapping, trading in the company's shares was suspended on the Athens stock exchange.
