TEHRAN, July 1 (RIA Novosti) - A total of 29 people were killed and around 30 others injured when a coach overturned in central Iran, local television reported Tuesday.

The bus crashed into a safety barrier on a highway to the city of Qom, skidding off the road and overturning some 35 kilometers (22 miles) south of the Iranian capital.

Twenty-five people were killed instantly and another four died in hospitals from their injuries.

The crash is believed to have been caused by the driver falling asleep at the wheel.

Iran's traffic is rated among the world most dangerous with around 30,000 people dying on its roads annually.

According to the BBC, more than 1 million people are killed on the roads each year, making traffic the world's leading cause of death by injury.
