MOSCOW, September 2 (RIA Novosti) - The death toll from floods and storms that have battered China since the start of the year has climbed to 436, while another 113 people are still missing, local officials said on Tuesday.
Tropical storm Kammuri battered southwest China in early August leaving 116 people dead. Kammuri was the third storm to hit China this season, after tropical storm Kalmaegi and typhoon Fung Wong, Chinese for phoenix.
Around 370,000 homes have been destroyed in the storms, the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said.
Local authorities said the damage from the storms has been put at over $10.5 billion.
Although the typhoon and flood season has ended, meteorologists have warned that China could be struck by two new typhoons in September.
