TASHKENT, September 10 (RIA Novosti) - Police officers in south Uzbekistan's Bukhara Region have seized almost 30 kg (66 lbs) of heroin, a source in the republic's interior ministry said Wednesday.

The drugs, stashed in a car, were discovered by two police dogs.

This is the second major drug seizure in the region in 24 hours. On Monday, police seized 14 kg (30.8 lbs) of heroin hidden in the boot of a car. The car driver, an Uzbek national, admitted he had been promised $2,000 to deliver the drugs.

Former Soviet republics in Central Asia are major transit countries for drugs from Afghanistan, the world's largest heroin producer.
