KIEV, November 5 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine intends to boost natural gas transit to Europe to 120 billion cubic meters in 2009, the Ukrainian national oil and gas company Naftogaz said on Wednesday.

Ukraine, which transits about 80% of Russia's Europe-bound gas, transported 112.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas to European countries in 2007, or 1.5% less than in 2006.

This year, the ex-Soviet republic is set to transit the greatest volume of natural gas to Europe since the establishment of its gas transportation system, Naftogaz board chairman, Oleh Dubina, was quoted by the Ukrainian news agency Unian as saying.

According to data provided by the Ukrainian natural gas transit monopoly, UkrTransGaz, a subsidiary of Naftogaz, Ukraine's natural gas transit to Europe increased 13% in the first 10 months of 2008 against the same period last year to a record 99.1 billion cubic meters.
