ATHENS, November 6 (RIA Novosti) - Greece is willing to mediate negotiations following the conflict surrounding Georgia's breakaway republic of South Ossetia, Greek Foreign Minister Theodora Bakoyianni said on Thursday.

Greece, which will assume the rotating presidency of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2009, also intends to send humanitarian aid to Georgia both at the national level and via international organizations.

"I expressed the desire of Greece as OSCE's [future] president to be a frank mediator and to participate in the resolution of the conflict in any way open to us," the minister said.

At talks with her Georgian counterpart, Eka Tkeshelashvili, Bakoyianni also expressed hope that the November 18 talks in Geneva on the status of the breakaway republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia would be "constructive."

The Georgian foreign minister, in her turn, thanked Greece for its support of Georgia's territorial integrity.

Russia and Georgia fought a five-day war after Georgia attacked South Ossetia on August 8, which ended when Russia imposed peace on the region. Moscow recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia, another disputed Georgian republic, as independent states on August 26.
