Chernomyrdin denies resigning as Russian ambassador to Ukraine
"This is not so, I am not leaving anywhere and have no such plans," Chernomyrdin said.
Media reports on Monday said that Boris Gromov had resigned as governor of the Moscow Region, which surrounds but does not include the Russian capital, and would be appointed ambassador to Ukraine, but the governor's press service dismissed the reports.
"I have been for a long time here, but nothing lasts forever," Chernomyrdin said when reminded that he has been working in Ukraine since 2001, but added that for the time being he will remain in Ukraine to work for the sake of the Russian-Ukrainian relations.
A source in Russia's lower house of parliament said earlier in the week that the State Duma's international affairs committee could consider the Gromov's candidacy for the ambassadorial post next week.
The source said Gromov's nomination would be submitted to the committee next Monday.
