JAKARTA, January 23 (RIA Novosti) - Indonesia's General Election commission (KPU) has chosen July 8 as the date for presidential elections in the country, the national news agency Antara said on Friday.

"In case of a runoff it would be done on September 8, 2009," the agency quoted a KPU member as saying.

During the polls, the country will elect its president for the 2009-2014 term. The incumbent president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Megawati Sukarnoputri, his predecessor and the daughter of Indonesia's first president Sukarno, are seen as frontrunners for the presidential race.
