BRUSSELS, February 6 (RIA Novosti) - Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov has been invited to a summit of countries involved in the Nabucco pipeline project to pump gas from Central Asia to Europe, a European diplomatic source said on Friday.
Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek will discuss Turkmenistan's participation in the project with Berdymukhamedov during his visit to Ashgabat, scheduled for February 13.
The $10 billion Nabucco pipeline, backed by the European Union and the U.S., is intended to link energy-rich Central Asia to Europe through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria, bypassing Russia and Ukraine. Construction has been tentatively scheduled to begin in 2010.
