Moldova to expel three Romanian journalists - 2
Topic: Riots in Moldova
CHISINAU, April 09 (RIA Novosti) - Moldova will expel three Romanian journalists following the recent anti-communist riots in the capital Chisinau, a source in the country's intelligence services said on Thursday.
"They were involved in activities incompatible with the laws of the country," the source told RIA Novosti.
The source also said that two other Romanian journalists were refused entry to the country during the night.
"They were turned back at the airport and sent home," the source said.
Protests against the ruling Communist Party's victory in Sunday's elections turned violent on Tuesday, with some 10,000 rioters seizing of the presidential residence and nearby parliament building. Some 170 police officers and more than 100 civilians were injured in the clashes.
Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin has accused Romania of inciting the violence in the capital, and on Wednesday the Moldovan government approved the introduction of a visa regime with Romania, and also expelled the country's ambassador.
The capital was reported to be quiet overnight without any demonstrations or repeats of the protests.
