MOSCOW, May 4 (RIA Novosti) - At least 28 people died when a bus carrying pilgrims crashed into a building in western Iran, the state TV channel said on Monday.
The crash occurred in a town in the western Iranian province of Ilam. The driver of the coach, en route to Mehran on the Iraqi border from the western Iranian city of Kermanshah, lost control after a malfunction occurred at high speed.
"A total of 29 passengers were killed, nine received serious injuries," the channel quoted a spokesman for a local hospital as saying.
Major accidents involving coaches are a relatively common occurrence in Iran. Over 25,000 people are killed annually on the country's roads.
