JAKARTA, May 6 (RIA Novosti) - A total of 27 people have died and another 8 are missing following a typhoon that hit the northeast Philippines on May 2, regional media said on Wednesday.
Typhoon Kujira triggered landslides and floods which have left hundreds of houses damaged and more than 54,000 people homeless.
Twenty-one people died in a landslide in the southernmost province of Sorsogon in Luzon. Another six drowned in the provinces of Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte.
Local meteorologists have forecast that a new tropical storm, Chan-Hom, is moving towards the western Philippines and is expected to reach the coast by Thursday morning.
The Philippines is hit by around 20 typhoons and tropical storms a year, most often in June.
