MOSCOW, May 15 (RIA Novosti) - The first human case of A/H1N1 influenza has been confirmed in Ecuador, the country's health minister said Friday.

Caroline Chang told local media that an 11-year-old boy studying in Guayaqil who recently returned from Miami had fallen ill with the disease commonly known as swine flu.

Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Fander Falconi earlier described as successful the preventive measures his country took to prevent the spread of the disease, which included canceling airline flights with Mexico.

The World Health Organization on Friday confirmed 7,520 cases of swine flu in 34 countries, with 65 deaths, an increase of more than a thousand infections over Thursday's total.

Sixty people have died in Mexico, which has reported 2,446 laboratory-confirmed human cases of swine flu. The United States has reported 4,298 confirmed cases with three fatalities. One person died in Canada, which has reported 449 cases, and Costa Rica has had one fatality and eight confirmed cases.
