JAKARTA, May 20 (RIA Novosti) - The death toll following the crash of an Indonesian military transport plane in a residential area of East Java early on Wednesday has risen to 92, regional media have reported.
"The bodies of 92 people had been identified as of 1:01 p.m. local time (06:01 GMT)," detik.com cited local medics as saying.
The C-130 Hercules transport plane, en route from Jakarta, was preparing to land at Iswahyudi military airbase when the incident occurred, the Antara news agency said.
According to updated reports, the plane was carrying 99 troops on a training mission together with their families, including 10 children, and 11 crew members.
Local media said at least three local residents were killed on the ground.
Eyewitnesses said they heard an explosion while the plane was in the air. The plane then crashed in Geplak village near the town of Magetan, breaking into two parts and catching fire.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has sent condolences to Indonesian leader Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the Kremlin press service said.
"I deeply regret to hear of the Indonesian military transport plane crash in East Java, which led to numerous deaths," the president said in a telegram.
