A total of 11,034 people in 41 countries worldwide have been officially diagnosed with the A/H1N1 virus as of 06:00 GMT on Thursday, with 85 deaths, the World Health Organization said in its daily report.

MOSCOW, May 21 (RIA Novosti) - A total of 11,034 people in 41 countries worldwide have been officially diagnosed with the A/H1N1 virus as of 06:00 GMT on Thursday, with 85 deaths, the World Health Organization said in its daily report.

The number of laboratory-confirmed cases rose by 791, and five people have died over the previous 24 hours.

New cases have been registered in Mexico (244 cases, three deaths) the United States (241 cases, two deaths), Canada (223 cases), Japan (49), Costa Rica (11), the U.K. (7), Panama (4), Spain (4), Australia (2), China (1), Cuba (1), France (1), Guatemala (1), Italy (1), Norway (1)

Human A/H1N1 infections have been officially confirmed in the following countries:

United States - 5,710 cases, eight deaths

Mexico - 3,892 cases, 75 deaths

Canada - 719 cases, one death

Costa Rica - 20, one death

Japan - 259 cases

Spain - 111 cases

United Kingdom - 109 cases

Panama - 69 cases

France - 16 cases

Germany - 14 cases

Colombia - 12 cases

Italy - 10 cases

New Zealand - nine cases

China - eight cases

Brazil - eight cases

Israel - seven cases

El Salvador - six cases

Belgium - five cases

Chile - five cases

Cuba - four cases

Guatemala - four cases

The Netherlands, South Korea, Peru, Australia, Norway and Sweden have each reported three officially confirmed cases of the human A/H1N1 infection.

Turkey, Finland, Malaysia, Poland and Thailand have reported two cases each.

Single cases have been detected in Argentina, Greece, India, Switzerland, Ireland, Austria, Denmark, Portugal and Ecuador.
