HAVANA, May 28 (RIA Novosti) - Cuba's Fidel Castro praised Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's weekly television and radio program in his regular column on the Cubadebate website.

In his article dedicated to the 10-year anniversary of Chavez's program, Allo President, the ex-Cuban leader said that Chavez was one of a kind in the history of world politics because of his efforts in "informing and nurturing" the Venezuelan people.

"Hugo Chavez's case is an exception in the history of politics. Many have attained fame and notoriety using the press, radio and television, but the media have never been used so effectively before for revolutionary ideas," Fidel wrote.

Chavez's weekly program, which begins at 11:00 every Sunday morning, is aired live on television and radio on average for five hours straight, though at times has run for more than eight hours. During his program, Chavez answers questions from viewers and listeners, invites Venezuelan ministers and Latin American leaders to discuss issues, makes important national announcements, and sings.

In a tribute to the program's 10-year anniversary, Chavez will go on air with his program for four days from May 28 through May 31, breaking all live broadcast records, South American media have reported.

"Without this program, imperialism and oligarchy, with their absolute control over mass media and their false ideas, would have destroyed the Venezuelan Revolution," Castro wrote.

Castro said that Chavez has studied ideas, himself and learned from others, adding that he "has read, acquired knowledge and passed this knowledge on to his people."

According to Castro, Chavez "like never before" is full of enthusiasm, full of life and is in excellent physical condition.

"Chavez runs 40 minutes a day and has lost several extra pounds over the last month," Castro said.

Allo President is the most popular state program and was launched on May 23, 1999, on Venezuelan radio and later broadcast on the state VTV channel every Sunday at 11:00 am. The live program lasts for at least five hours and the president himself decides when airing is over.

At the start of the week, Chavez promised that the anniversary program would contain a number of surprises.
