Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed on Wednesday that a meeting of the Russia-NATO council at the level of foreign ministers will be held on June 27 on the Greek island of Corfu.

COPENHAGEN, June 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed on Wednesday that a meeting of the Russia-NATO council at the level of foreign ministers will be held on June 27 on the Greek island of Corfu.

Earlier on Wednesday in Brussels, Russia's envoy to the military alliance, Dmitry Rogozin, said that if all of the partners agreed on the date, the he was "not ruling out" that Lavrov "could participate in it."

"I can confirm that several days ago we discussed with...[U.S. Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton the possibility of setting a new date for holding the Russia-NATO council at the level of ministers. Our partners suggested June 27, and we agreed," Lavrov said at a press conference following a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.

The Russia-NATO Council held a meeting at the level of ambassadors in late May to discuss security in the Euro-Atlantic region and Russia-NATO relations, which were temporarily severed after last August's Georgia-Russia war.

Rogozin said the meeting of foreign ministers must open the way for resumption in cooperation between Russian and NATO forces.

Lavrov said that it "wasn't bad that [the ministerial meeting] would be held on neutral territory." He also said that he had wanted to meet informally with NATO Secretary General-designate Anders Fogh Rasmussen, however, "it didn't happen."
