Interpol issues 7 arrest warrants in Yamadayev murder case
MOSCOW, June 4 (RIA Novosti) - Interpol has issued warrants for the arrests of seven people in connection with the murder of Sulim Yamadayev, a Russian Interior Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.
According to Dubai police, the former commander of the Vostok Battalion in Chechnya was gunned down near his apartment in the United Arabic capital on March 28. Relatives, including his brother Isa, say he survived the shooting and is in hospital. Russian authorities in the Emirates have not received official documents on his death.
"In regard to the Yamadayev case... we still do not have any active cooperation from our colleagues in the United Arab Emirates," Timur Lakhonin told reporters in Moscow.
"They have put warrants out for the arrest of seven people," he said.
There has been "no concrete information or other details" on whether those wanted are in the Emirates, or what their role was in the killing. "We still have no information on this," he said.
Lakhonin noted serious problems between Arab states and Russia in regard to exchanging information on police affairs, saying that when Russian authorities do receive answers to requests, it is usually after a long delay.
"We have been waiting for official information on what our United Arab Emirates colleagues have on this case. We have sent several requests, but there is only silence from their end," he said.
