George Bush Sr. marks his 85th birthday with parachute jump
MOSCOW, June 13 (RIA Novosti) - Former U.S. president George H. W. Bush has marked his 85th birthday with a parachute jump and said he will do the same when he turns 90.
Bush, who also parachute jumped when he turned 75 and 80, skydived on Friday from 3,200 meters (over 10,500 feet) in tandem with a member of the U.S. Army's Golden Knights.
Upon landing safely near a church in Kennebunkport, where he has an oceanfront home, he said: "Just because you're an old guy, you don't have to sit around drooling in the corner. Get out and do something. Get out and enjoy life."
Bush's family, including his son, ex-President George W. Bush, watched his skydive.
Bush Sr., who was president in 1989-1993, made his first jump during World War II in 1944, when his Grumman TBM Avenger bomber was shot and he had to bail out and wait on a raft until rescued by a lifeguard submarine.
