YEKATERINBURG, June 16 (RIA Novosti) - The leaders of Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) supported energy dialogue and boosting power sector investment after the first BRIC summit, held in Russia's Urals city of Yekaterinburg on Tuesday.
"We are for strengthening the coordination and the cooperation of states in the energy sphere, including between producers and consumers of energy and transit states, in the efforts to reduce uncertainty and ensure stability and steadiness," the joint statement said.
"We support the diversification of energy resources and the supply of energy products, including renewable energy, ensuring the security of energy carrier transit routes, establishing a new energy infrastructure and directing new investment into the energy sphere," the statement said.
The statement also said the second BRIC summit would be held next year in Brazil.
The BRIC leaders also supported increasing the number of representatives of developing countries in global financial institutions.
"Countries with transitory and developing economies should have a greater voice and representation in international financial institutions, while their heads and management should be appointed through an open and transparent selection system based on merit," it said.
The statement also supported Brazil and India's desire to play a greater role in the UN.
