ROME, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - A powerful earthquake aftershock has hit the Italian city of L'Aquila, due to host a G8 summit next month, the country's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said on Tuesday.
Italy's Civil Protection service said there were no immediate reports on casualties or damage.
The aftershock, registered at 22:58 local time (20:28 GMT) with a magnitude of 4.5, was felt in Rome, where light-fittings swung and furniture moved around in apartments.
L'Aquila was devastated by an April 6 quake, which killed almost 300 people, injured 1,500 and left about 50,000 homeless. L'Aquila hosts a summit of the Group of Eight industrialized nations on July 8-10.
Italy subsequently moved the venue of the G8 summit from La Maddalena island to L'Aquila in a show of support for the affected city and the surrounding Abruzzo region.
