MOSCOW, July 1 (RIA Novosti) - The World Health Organization (WHO) updated its A/H1N1 report on Wednesday to confirm 77,201 officially registered cases and 332 deaths in 120 countries and territories worldwide.
The United States has seen the most fatalities, with 27,717 cases and 127 deaths. Mexico is now the second most affected country as far as fatalities are concerned, with 8,680 cases and 116 deaths.
The U.S. and Mexico are followed by Canada (7,983 cases, 25 deaths), Britain (6,538 cases, three deaths), Chile (6,211 cases and 12 deaths), and Australia (4,090 cases, seven deaths).
WHO raised its pandemic alert level to the maximum of 6 on June 11.
There were three flu pandemics in the last century. The 1918 Spanish flu was the most serious, claiming over 50 million lives. It was followed by the Asian Flu in 1957 with up to 4 million deaths, and the Hong Kong Flu in 1968 resulting in about 1 million deaths.
