MOSCOW, July 10 (RIA Novosti) - The United States will pull 10,000 combat troops out of Iraq by the end of the current year, Iraq's charge d'affairs to Russia said on Friday.
"There are currently 130,000 U.S. combat troops in Iraq, and by the end of 2009 there will be 120,000," Jaber Hasun Ali Enuz told a news conference at RIA Novosti.
He added that by August 2010, 50,000 U.S. troops will be deployed on Iraqi territory.
Under an agreement signed between Washington and Baghdad, the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country should be completed by the end of 2011.
Enuz said the Americans had handed over to Iraqi troops 142 combat positions, including 86 in Baghdad.
"Americans currently control about 360 facilities. Their hand over to Iraqi security forces will continue and will be complete by the end of 2011," he said.
