MOSCOW, July 16 (RIA Novosti) - The interim government in Honduras imposed an overnight curfew after allies of the deposed president Manuel Zelaya pledged to hold new demonstrations.

The new leadership, which has not been internationally recognized since the country's June 28 military coup, had maintained a nationwide curfew until last weekend.

Due to "continued, open threats", people were required to remain in their homes from midnight until 5:00 a.m., authorities said on Wednesday.

Supporters of Zelaya have threatened to organize strikes and street rallies demanding his return to power. Internationally mediated talks on ending the crisis in the Central American country are set to resume in Costa Rica on Saturday.

Interim leader Roberto Micheletti said on Wednesday he was willing to step down to end political turmoil in the country, on the condition that Zelaya is not reinstated as president.

The Organization of American States has voiced support for the ousted leader. OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza said on Wednesday that the bloc would continue its sanctions against the interim government.

Zelaya has said the coup was organized by rich elites seeking to control the country's wealth, while Micheletti has said the president was deposed for violating the constitution by seeking to end limits on presidential terms.
