MOSCOW, July 16 (RIA Novosti) - Iranian Atomic Energy Organization head Gholam Reza Aghazadeh has resigned, the Iranian news agency ISNA reported on Thursday.
Aghazadeh also stepped down from his position as one of the Islamic Republic's 10 vice presidents.
The agency said that Aghazadeh had submitted a letter of resignation to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad around 20 days ago. Aghazadeh told ISNA on Thursday that the president had complied with his request.
No further details on the reasons for his resignation have been reported.
Western powers suspect Iran of trying to build a nuclear weapon, while Iran says it needs the program for peaceful power generation.
