MOSCOW, August 11 (RIA Novosti) - WHO officially confirmed a total of 1,668 deaths from the A/H1N1 virus worldwide and 208,058 confirmed infections, Russia's consumer watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Tuesday.
"The total number of laboratory confirmed human cases of swine flu caused by the A/H1N1 virus has reached 208,058, including 1,668 fatal cases," the watchdog said, citing data from the World Health Organization's regional offices.
Russian sanitary officials are continuing to check flights arriving in the country from destinations with confirmed cases of swine flu. Transit flights are also being checked.
Since monitoring began Rospotrebnadzor has check over 10,000 flights, about 840,000 passengers and over 67,000 crew members, officials said.
The number of confirmed swine flu cases in Russia has reached 55.
Chief sanitary official Gennady Onishchenko recommended that Russians reconsider visiting countries with a high rate of swine flu infections.
