GAZA, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - At least three Palestinians died and one was wounded when a smugglers' tunnel connecting Egypt with Gaza collapsed on Friday morning, a local medic told RIA Novosti.
Israel frequently attacks the large network of underground tunnels connecting Egypt with the blockaded enclave, saying they are used by Palestinians to smuggle arms, but locals say the tunnels are needed to bring in essential supplies.
According to medics, more than 100 Palestinians have died in the tunnels over the past two years. Tunnel damage, gas used by Egyptian border guards to fight smuggling, and Israeli airstrikes are common causes of death.
