First metro in Persian Gulf Region opens in Dubai

Authorities hope the metro system will relieve the city's notorious traffic jams
© Jumeirah LLCMOSCOW, September 9 (RIA Novosti) - The first metro system in the Persian Gulf opens on Wednesday in Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, Arabian media reported.
The Metro's Red Line will be declared open by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, the English language The National paper said.
Authorities hope the metro system will relieve the city's notorious traffic jams.
"I'm hoping everybody will use it," said Ali Abdulaziz, a 32-year-old Emirati who works in the federal government, as quoted by The National.
Competition winners will ride the first trains tonight, but the metro is expected to officially open for business tomorrow morning.
