NASA postpones shuttle Discovery landing due to bad weather
01:46 11/09/2009

WASHINGTON, September 11 (RIA Novosti) - NASA announced it has skipped the shuttle Discovery first landing opportunity due to bad weather around the Kennedy space center in Florida.

"If the weather cooperates for the second Kennedy landing opportunity tonight, the deorbit burn would occur at 7:35 p.m. EDT [23.04 GMT ] with landing at 8:40 p.m. [00.40 GMT on Friday]," NASA said in a statement posted on its web site.

The shuttle with seven astronauts is returning from a 13-day mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

Discovery docked with the ISS late on August 31, delivering more than seven tons of cargo, including the Leonardo supply module, and a new crew member. Three spacewalks were performed during the mission.

The shuttle undocked from the ISS in preparation for the journey back to Earth on Tuesday at 19:26 GMT.
