BRIC countries — Brazil, Russia, India, China — are playing a greater role on news and media resources.

LONDON, September 14 (RIA Novosti) — BRIC countries — Brazil, Russia, India, China - are playing a greater role on news and media resources, the authors of a new book on international communications said.

The authors, Silvia Cambie and Yang-May Ooi, of the book International Communications Strategy, which was released last week, contend that the economical and political centre is shifting to these countries.

Some of the indicators that support their contention include GDP in China bypassing Germany for the first time, and the exponential growth of mobile phone subscribers in India from 2 million in 2006 to 55 million this year and forecast to reach 250 million in 2014.

And they also cite the growth of communication and Internet technology within BRIC — China’s QQ is the world’s largest instant messaging service with 800 million users.

Silvia Cambie said that she is extremely impressed by the development of blogs in Russia which has grown significantly.

“The Chinese are also beginning to listen to new voices. One of these comes from another BRIC country, neighboring Russia,” the book reads.

“In 2008, RIA Novosti was the first Russian news agency to be authorized by the Chinese authorities to sell its services directly to Chinese subscribers,” they continue.
