Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said it is too early to draw any conclusions regarding U.S. statement on scrapping its missile shield plans in Europe.

MINSK, September 20 (RIA Novosti) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said it is too early to draw any conclusions regarding U.S. statement on scrapping its missile shield plans in Europe.

U.S. President Barack Obama announced on Thursday that Washington would not deploy a radar in the Czech Republic and a missile base in Poland, due to a re-assessment of the threat from Iran.

"We must not hurry and applaud it. Let us see how the United States and its NATO allies will be acting further," Lukashenko said.

However, the Belarus leader said it was a positive step for the United States.

"It is good that the [U.S.] president made this step. Obama retreated in this situation and his rating in the United States plunged down, nevertheless he did it," Lukashenko said.
