Tajik president set to leave for UN General Assembly in New York
Topic: The 64th session of the UN General Assembly
DUSHANBE, September 20 (RIA Novosti) - President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon is taking off on Sunday to New York to take part in the UN General Assembly session, a presidential spokesman said.
Abdufattokh Sharifzoda said that President Rakhmon is scheduled to take part in the summit on the climate change problems and will hold a number of bilateral meetings as well.
The Tajik president met in early September with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon within the frames of a UN summit on the climate change, who invited him to attend the UN General Assembly and the summit on the climate change on September 22 in New York.
The overwhelming consensus of climate change experts, environmental groups and organizations is that the climate change is caused by greenhouse gas emissions due to human activity, which is causing significant damage to the Earth, although a minority argues that the possible impact has not yet been proven.
