PITTSBURGH, September 25 (RIA Novosti) - Police on Friday have detained about 70 protesters on the first day of the G20 summit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a local police spokesman said on Friday.
He said some of those arrested were fined for public order offences and later released.
Earlier in the day, protesters clashed with police, throwing rocks and garbage bins at officers, who retaliated with tear gas.
The Pittsburgh G-20 Resistance Project said six protest marches would be held and about 100 points around the city picketed on the second day of the summit.
