MOSCOW, October 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's president and prime minister sent congratulations to China on Thursday as the country celebrated the 60th anniversary of the founding of the communist state.
President Dmitry Medvedev sent a telegram to his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, saying the establishment of the People's Republic of China had "radically affected the shape of the modern world," the Kremlin press service reported.
Medvedev praised China's contribution to international stability and the country's social and economic development in recent years, and said relations between Beijing and Moscow, established 60 years ago, were a high-level strategic partnership.
"Deepening mutual trust is giving us the opportunity to successfully forge long-term cooperation on a wide spectrum of issues," he said.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who is due in Beijing on October 12 for a three-day visit, also sent his congratulations, the Russian government press service said.
"For six decades of the People's Republic of China has achieved tremendous successes in social and economic development, has taken a strong place among leading world powers, and has gained high authority in international affairs," he said in a telegram to Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.
Putin will meet his counterpart while in China, as well as attending a gathering of Shanghai Cooperation Organization heads of government.
