NEW DELHI, October 5 (RIA Novosti) - Three people were killed in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad on Monday when a suspected suicide bomber attacked a UN World Food Program office, the Dawn News TV channel said.

One Iraqi national and two Pakistani women are reported to have been killed. Three people were seriously wounded in the attack, the TV channel said, quoting local police.

Several dozen people were working in the building when the attack occurred. Police are investigating how the suicide bomber managed to get through security.

National media said the attack was carried out by radical Islamic militants in order to spread panic.

"They want to create panic, a sense of danger, in order to force international organizations to leave Pakistan," Dawn News chief editor Zaffar Abbas said.

UN spokeswoman Ishrat Rizvi told RIA Novosti the organization had temporarily closed all its offices in Pakistan following the attack.

"We have temporarily closed offices across Pakistan for the sake of our officials' safety. Despite these measures, the organization will continue working [in the country]," she said, without elaborating.

The World Food Program provides food to millions of impoverished Pakistanis. The agency was recently involved in providing relief to about 2 million people displaced by an army offensive against Taliban militants in the Swat Valley, northwest of the capital.
